THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE A major new commission from CBBC looking at the world of magic aired 2007.

At a specially created reality magic school, fourteen aspiring young magicians battle it out for the title of “Sorcerer’s Apprentice”. Trained by top professional magicians, the children learn different kinds of magic skills from close-up tricks to teleportation and mentalism. They also look after resident magic animals, learn to use quills and ink, keep their dormitories clean, cloaks folded and face a spooky diet of snails and “frogs-legs” soup. At the end of each show, the children compete, performing their magic in front of a large audience and the Sorcerer himself. With eliminations on the cards, the competition is fierce. There can only be one winner.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is presented by Barney Harwood, Series Produced by Helen Soden and Executive Produced by Twenty Twenty Head of Factual, Tim Carter.

The commission follows hot on the heels of Twenty Twenty’s hit living history series Evacuation, which looked at the experiences of city kids in the countryside during the Second World War. Evacuation aired on BBC1 and the CBBC Channel last Autumn, drawing record audiences.

Twenty Twenty Head of Factual Tim Carter said:

“Children’s programmes are an exciting new area for us. They’re creatively challenging and offer a real opportunity to innovate. It’s great to be making programmes for such a passionate and discerning audience.”

Anne Gilchrist, Creative Director CBBC said:

"The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is going to be a great event for CBBC. Children of all ages are fascinated by magic and this show will inspire and amaze in equal measures."
